Atlas Abrahama Orteliusa Theatrum Orbis Terrarum (Teatar svijeta) smatra se pretečom modernog atlasa. Nakon njegovog izdavanja, riječ atlas postaje opća oznaka za kartografski prikaz površine zemlje.
Izdanje Orteliusovog Atlasa koji posjeduje Nacionalna i univerzitetska biblioteka BiH štampan je 1592. godine u štampariji Plantiniana u Antwerpenu.
Nama je, između ostalog, ovaj atlas važan i zbog toga što je na tri karte prikazana Bosna, i to na kartama Illyricum i Sclavoniae, Croatiae, Carniae, Istriae, Bosniae finitimarumque regionum nova descriptio te na karti Mađarske od Wolfganga Laziusa.

Izdanje Orteliusovog Atlasa koji poseduje Nacionalna i univerzitetska biblioteka BiH potječe iz 1592. Ovo izdanje izašlo je iz štamparije Platininiana u Antwerpenu.
